The Difference Between Being Famous and a Movie Star (and Why You Need to Know This When Hiring Your Next Business Coach)

Ah – fame. That status that EVERYBODY wants, but not everyone gets to have! So many people nowadays want to be famous. This desperate need to be known boils down to the fact people think it will be less work in the long run. This is SO wrong.

The difference between wanting to be famous and being a movie star boils down to three things – authenticity, longevity, and TALENT. And do you know what – the SAME difference applies between a good business coach and a bad one!

With 774,725 people starting a business in the USA in 2019, entrepreneurship is HOT. And it is so easy to see why! Why wouldn’t you want the financial freedom, flexibility, and growth potential that comes with entrepreneurship?!

Picking a business coach is an important decision. You have to make sure that they are the right fit for you and your brand, that they will help you grow, and that they believe in your concept.

However, with business coaching becoming SUCH a popular career path these days there’s the added factor of – is my business coach in this PURELY to be famous?

You see it all the time on Instagram – huge mass followings to the picture-perfect accounts with an inspiring aesthetic feed. The coaches are all BEAUTIFUL – but are there ideas impactful, or are they a bit of a fraud? I’ll let you decide on that one.

Like I said – the difference between being famous and a movie star, all boils down to THREE things. In this blog, I will explain how this is the same when it comes to being a business coach.

AUTHENTICITY

Authenticity when working as a business coach is vital! How else are we supposed to believe anything they’re saying if they can’t match their actions with what they PREACH on their IG feed?!

If they show the good AND the bad (including if they mess up with a client, and how they rectified it) THEN that shows that they’re willing to be real. They need to be able to show up and apologize. Just like a movie star!

LONGEVITY

Are they a one-hit-wonder? Are they more concerned with being insta-famous or a long-lasting career? Have they TRULY earned the fame and prestige they currently have?

If they look like a newbie but try to convince you they’ve saved every business in America – they are probably faking it, and they probably haven’t been around as long as they say they have. Always trust your instincts.

This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. So make sure they’ve honed their skills and are as oscar-worthy as Meryl Streep.

TALENT

…do they have a BIG following because they’re pretty or because they are talented at what they do and attract ideal clients?

Talent shows. Always. You can tell from the content they put out there, the results they demonstrate for EVERYONE to see, and the advice that they give!

At the end of the day, your business coach is YOUR choice. But I always recommend doing your research because not everyone out there is in this for the right reasons. Some just want the fame that comes with being online.
